Main variable - spatial coverage - temporal coverage - data source

The text should be written in a manner that is accessible to a non-specialist user and aims to describe what the dataset contains. The user will want to know whether the dataset would be useful to them. Typically, the overview text is two, three, or four paragraphs in length. Please see other CDS catalogue entries, especially those in the same sectoral theme, for examples.

Paragraph 1 (required)

Provides a high level introduction to the dataset and explain its relevance to climate science.

  • Recommend the first sentence begins “This dataset provides…”
  • Describe in high level terms what this dataset provides to the user.
  • How does this dataset contribute to C3S’s mission to provide freely available data about the Earth’s past, present and future climate? What is the knowledge gap and how does this dataset address it?

Paragraph 2 (recommended)

Touch upon the technical details of the dataset.

  • Elaborate on the added value of the dataset over the input data.
  • Mention the input data and processing chain.
  • Describe how was this data processed so users may decide whether it is fit to use for their purpose (i.e. the use of downscaling, interpolation, bias-adjustments techniques, etc.).

Paragraph 3 (recommended)

Describe the variables should you think they require particular attention:

  • Maybe these variables address a particular big issue in climate science, are particularly useful or novel, provide data at different higher resolutions than before etc.

Paragraph 4 (required)

This paragraph is one sentence only: “This data was produced on behalf of the Copernicus Climate Change Service by [insert name of institution(s) here].”

Or:

“This dataset is brokered by Copernicus Climate Change Service on behalf of [insert name of institution(s) here].”
